Summer Crafty Therapy

Self-care is alive and well this summer while I’m off. It’s crazy how creative and motivated I am with this time off. I can feel the urge to get back into work and care mode bubbling, but I am trying to ward it off.  I will either have some new additions to Etsy, maybe a flea market, or a surplus of Christmas gifts, but either way I’ve got a ton of ideas and mojo and it feels great! I’ve done some crocheted washcloths, keychains, and another scarf (with another in queue)!

I mean…I just can’t even.

B Board and Doggies

I finally finished my bulletin board!  Before break, I made a mindful and executive decision (don’t tell my admin) to finish my registrations and tie up loose ends instead of finishing my 6th grade hall bulletin board. I did, however, involve STEM in my procrastination nation, as you can see below:

Feel free to use this technology-infused intervention.  I think it’s genius.

I actually love making bulletin boards.  It’s a total excuse to get artsy and craftsy in the middle of a long week. Mindfulness, my dears can be productive (so are my lunches with peers where we have closed-door gossip sessions conversations about the goings ons of the day, but sometimes more is needed).  So, I have been wanting to use a really cool Kindness Game idea that I found at the trusty Edutopia.  I love how it gives simple ideas of how to be a good citizen, no matter where you are.  Always in the field of assessing the health of the school environment, it is also a perfect way to remind students (and staff!) that we can work together to help each other and be happier throughout the day.  So the finished product is…dun dun dun dun dldldldldldldld (that’s a drum roll, much more difficult to write than I thought)…

Ain’t she pretty!  I laminated just about everything so I can wipe away middle-year germs and save it for later.  I tweeted it (@steffschoolcoun) to Edutopia and they actually tweeted back! I geeked out.

Just as an update from my short break post, here is a view from my loom on one of the last a lazy and lovely days:

And here is one more of that cute pup, who was making us pay for leaving her behind when we traveled to see family in Ohio:

Weekend Loom Therapy

This weekend was like Christmas.  For reals.

I had gone to B&N last week with my main craft-nerd lady, and we were distraught by the poor magazine selection.  Crafty magazines are my all-time guilty pleasure…the more imported and ridiculously expensive the better, as you’ll probably learn in the next few weeks when the new edition of US$20 Flow comes out.  Don’t judge me.  Anyways, there wasn’t a whole lot of selection, and it made me very saddy-face.

But there was insane redemption this Saturday, when I happened to waltz back in, to find the bestestestest edition of Molly Makes with the cutestestest mini loom!

I mean, just look at it- and look at the small loom I may have acquired from Amazon! Again with the judging??!?! BACK OFF.

It totally reminds me of one of my best happy places in Manteo, NC called Endless Possibilities.  It is this awesome weaving shop that uses all recycled materials, whose proceeds fund a domestic abuse hotline.  I’m serious, it’s that storybook.  Here is my shiny face with Jen (Hi Jen!) on a day trip last year.

Some good Weekend Therapy extending through the week…aaaaahhhhh, feels good…
